DIPLOMATIC SERVICE REGULATION NO 7:

GIFTS FROM HONG KONG

1. A four-man delegation from the Hong Kong Urban Council have recently been in London on a sponsored visit. On leaving London the leader of the delegation sent small thank you gifts (consisting in my case of three embroidered handkerchiefs) to Mr Royle, Sir Duncan Watson and to Miss Kelly of this Department.

2.

Because of the sensitive issue of corruption in Hong Kong, I thought that the receipt of these gifts should be reported. However since the value is so small I assume it will conform with normal practice if they are retained and that there will be no need to make contributions to the Diplomatic Service Welfare Fund.
