AMENDMENTS TO STEERING BRIEF FOR PRIME MINISTER'S VISIT TO HONG KONG
1. Mr Price (Defence Department) rang to say Defence Department are happy with paragraph 14 (Defence) of the brief.
2. Mr Capie (M & TD) rang to say that Marine & Transport Department had no amendments to suggest to paragraph 10 (Register of Shipping). However he suggested two amendments to paragraph 9 (Air Services). These I have
Mr Capie noted on my copy of the draft brief (attached). also pointed out that most of paragraph 9 might have to be revised following the outcome of the talks being held next week in Copenhagen. He expects the talks to finish on the Wednesday or Thursday and will telegraph immediately if the talks radically change the present position.,
3. Mr Lewty (FRD) said that he would liaise with the Treasury over any amendments to paragraph 6 (Sterling).

Mr Hurst (Deputy OLA) has sent a minute (attached) suggesting an amendment to paragraph 10 (Register of Shipping) This I have noted on the copy of the brief attached below. Mr Hurst has also suggested it might be prudent to include a separate brief on 'Labour', please see his minute below.
5. Mr. Hazle (TRED) has suggested one minor amendment; he thinks there should be a new paragraph on 2 (see note on attached brief). He also mentioned that the DTI has not yet consulted him about the brief on Textiles and that he would like to see this if it has already been sent to us. Also if there is anything further on EEC/GSP other than **21 ic written in the Steering Brief, he would like to
see it.
