OF STATE'S VISIT TO CHINA
Mr and Mrs Walker would like to pay a brief visit to Hong
Kong on their return from China. They are planning to leave
(details not yet settled)
China by charter flight on 31 March/and would like to spend
the night of 31 March in Hong Kong leaving on the afternoon
of 1 April for Singapore. MIFT contains the list of names of
those accompanying Mr Walker.
2 If the foregoing is convenient we would be grateful for your suggestions for a programme on the assumption that the Walker will be available in Hong Kong from Saturday bunchtime.

Mr Lewando, Chairman of Carrington yella and Mrs Lewando
accompanied by Mr Woolley, DTI will be in Mr Walker's party
but would not expect to take part in any official programme
for the Secretary of State. Mr Lewando in his capacity as
Chairman of the British Textiles Confederation would however
welcome a discussion with you on Monday 2 April. He would
also in his capacity as a member of the BOTB, welcome a
discussion with the British Trade Commissioner. Mr and Mrs
Lewando and Mr Woolley plan to leave Hong Kong on 3 April for
London. They will make their own hitel arrangements in
Hong Kong.

4 On the outward journey the Secretary

party will be arriving in Hong Kong on BA 920 on 24 March and
will transfer to a charter plane for the final leg to Peking.
We are in touch with BOAC about details of the chartèr which
has not yet been cleared.
5 Mr Corley, DTI will be travelling in advance of the
Secretary of State's party and would be available on 19 March
in Hong Kong for discussions about final details for the Secretary of State's visit.
