BRIEFING FOR PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION
1.
Thank you for your letter of 24 September. I was glad to hear that the visit had passed off successfully. We did go to some lengths in trying to brief members of the delegation fully. In addition to the oral briefing which I gave them, and to the background material, provided by Michael Wright, which I passed on to them, we later gave them each a set of briefs on current problems.
2. I have now put in writing to the Ministry of Defence the suggestion, previously made orally, that the Hong Kong Commissioner should attend future briefing meetings. Since the next visit is not imminent, it may take them some time to decide about this. We shall certainly let you know when we have their response.
