Mr. Robert Parry, M.P.
You have probably seen telegram no. 860 of 31.8.73 from the FCO notifying Hong Kong of the impending visit of Mr. Robert Parry. I think that I should fill in somo details about him and as I am not sure who in the Secretariat is involved from the "political" angle, I am writing to you to make sure that any action taken is by the right person.
Mr. Parry is M.P. for the Exchange Division of Liverpool and most of the Chinese community in Liverpool live in his constituency. I have met him on a number of occasions in London because he has many Chinese friends and attends functions which are laid on for the Houng Yee Kuk and other visiting delegations or dignatories from Hong Kong. Though he is something of a rough diamond he is a good friend of the Chinese community in Liverpool, and of this office.

I last saw him the day before yesterday when I attended the formal opening of our Liverpool Branch Office. Mr. and Mrs. Parry attended and he spoke to me for some time about this visit to Hong Kong. The main object of the visit is to devolop business connections (I understand that he hopes to start up an import export business) and Frank McKellar of the TDC has made arrangements for him to meet business men in Hong Kong.
