Adm BUTLER MF.

(Bosworth)

Adam Butler was born in 1931.

He was edu.ated at Eton and Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he obtain d a degree in history and economics.

He was omissioned into the 60th R. fles during his National Service and later became A.D.C. to the Governor-General of Canada.

Mr Butler is married with two boys and a girl and is the second son of Lord (RAB) Butler.

Mr Butler was elected MP for Bosworth, Leicestershire, in the 1970 General Election. In a straight fight with Labour he defeated Mr Woodrow Wyatt, turning a 7,773 Labour majority into 1,055 for the Conservatives, a swing of 8%.

With wide political interests, Mr Butier's subject is industrial relations, which is backed by continuing practical experience. He is a member of the important Public Expenditure Committee in the House of Commons.

He started his industrial career in 1955 when he joined Courtaulds Ltd. working first on the development and marketing of different yarns and fibres and them becoming involved in management on the hosiery side of the group. Until recently he was Managing Director of Percy Taylor Ltd., Hinckley, but gave up executive responsibilities within the Courtaulds Group in March, 1971. He is now a director of a number of Courtaulds' subsidiaries including Aristoc Ltd. and Kayser Bondor Ltd.

He lives in Warwickshire and runs a small farm with his wife and is also a lover of music and pictures.
