Thereafter it will be necessary to submit to the
Palace, having first cleared an alternative nomination
for Chief Justice with the individual concerned, before
we can proceed with a formal offer of the post of
Colonial Secretary. Here again we shall press ahead
but it seems doubtful if the stage of a public
announcement for the latter appointment will be reached
before the end of February. We expect that it should be
possible to make an announcement of intention about the
appointment to Chief Justice at about the same time or
shortly afterwards.
