6. Although the Legal Adviser agreed with the
Governor that Mr Justice Blair-Kerr would be a
better choice for the appointment of Chief Justice,
he did not consider that the differences in the
respective merits of Justices Blair-Kerr and Briggs
were such that amendment of the rule governing the
retiring age would be justified. The Governor has
said that if there was any objection to the retiring
age being amended, he would be willing to accept
Mr Justice Briggs as the next Chief Justice.
