NOTES FOR SP SECH BY RÆH PRINCESS ALEXANDRA ON OPENING THE BRITISH INȚISTRIĀL EXHIBITION IN HONG KONG.
It is indeed an honour to be here as a guest of the Hong Kong Government
on the occasion of the inauguration of the British Industrial Rxhibition,
It is always a pleasure to some back to Hong Kong and to pay a tribute to
the industry and enterprise of its people who, mainly by their own
endeavours, have achieved such a remarkable economie success, Everyone
returning here must be impressed by the striking developments that have
taken place within a few years. Everywhere one sees new factories, offices
and housing. Much has been done in the field of publia serviess to improve
the gality of life for those living in this, the most heavily-populated
of the Crown Colonies, The cross-harbour tunnel, which I shall have
have had the honour of opening, is just one example of this. I hear
that Hong Kong is about to œbark on still more ambitious projects -
notably the largest desalination plant in the world, and an underground
帛
railway system covering over 30 kilon,
Naturally, British industry is keenly interested in these developments and
welcomes this opportunity, at a particularly significant point in Hong
Kong's expansion, to demonstrate its ability to contribute to the realisation
of these plans. It already has extremely close and long-standing links with
the Hong Kong market, and many of the firms exhibiting here today have played
a noteworthy part in Hong Kong's development. This exhibition covers a
wide-range of the most advanced goods and services Britain has to offer, and
I am sure that all the firms concerned are keen to continue and strengthen
the tradition of co-operation that has already been built up.
It gives me great pleasure therefore to deal are open the British Industrial
Exhibition in Hong Kong.
