Mrs Drummond (Protocol & Conference G79/G)

LAI CHI KOK HOSPITAL, HONG KONG

1. Please see the letter below from the Acting Colonial Secretary to the Head of my Department asking for confirmation that the new hospital at Lai Chi Kok should be called "Princess Margaret Hospital".

2. In view of our telegram No 707 of 22 September 1971, which seems definite enough to me, I should not have thought that we need to obtain the Queen's formal approval. If you have no objection I suggest we send a telegram saying - "We confirm that The Queen wishes the hospital to be named after Princess Margaret" - or words to that effect.
