to suggest to Mr Ogilvy that the summer of 1973 appears now to be too early for the visit we suggested before, and to ask whether in principle he and the Princess would be prepared to consider the following summer.

Recommendation

6.

I therefore recommend that the PUS should have a word

with Mr Ogilvy in the sense of paragraph 5 above. In case

the PUS should prefer to write to Mr Ogilvy I submit a short

draft letter.

7.

If the above is agreed I do not think that it is

necessary to say any more to the Chinese, either in London

or Peking until the time of Mr Chi P'eng-fei's visit to

London next year.

8.

Protocol and Conference Department agree with the
