carrying nationals in the national flag of the ship.

It is considered the altruism being displayed by the I.T.F. is
directed primarily at protecting jobs on board ship for European seamen on
European flag ships and in this they have obtained the support of Australian
Maritime Unions whose aims are the same so far as Australian seafarers are
concerned. It appears the I.T.F. has endeavoured to sugar-coat their motives
somewhat by indicating their concern with maritime safety requirements by
masters and owners and their intention to establish a closer surveillance on
the conditions of employment of seafarers serving in flags of convenience
ships as well as on safety aspects.
