REGISTER OF SHIPPING
1. Mr Standen, Assistant Secretary, Marine Division DTI, telephoned on 21 September. Mr Standen said that it had been agreed that he should go to Hong Kong on 30 September for talks the following week with Mr Fletcher, Director of Marine. This was in order to try and sort out the various problems concerning the possible setting up of a register of shipping. Its immediate importance would be to enable the brief to go forward to the Prime Minister which the latter had asked for following the visit of Mr Y K Pao.
