IMMIGRATION (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 1972
Annexed for the consideration of Honourable Members
are the Immigration (Amendment) Regulations 1972.

It is considered desirable to remit or refund in some cases certain of the prescribed fees set out in the Second Schedule to the principal regulations and made payable under regulation 11 of those regulations.

The persons to be exempted from payment of fees would include the holders of United Nations Laissez-Passer, members of foreign and Commonwealth diplomatic and consular corps, specified members of the British or Commonwealth armed forces, public officers of this Government, the British Government or the Government of any Commonwealth country or of any British Colonial territory and certain other limited categories of persons.

In the past visa fees payable by these persons under the revoked Immigration (Control and Offences) Regulations (Chapter 243, subsidiary legislation) have been remitted or refunded under regulation 16(2) of those regulations.

The annexed Immigration (Amendment) Regulations 1972 amend regulation 11 of the principal regulations by inserting therein a provision similar to paragraph (2) of regulation 16 of the revoked regulations.

Honourable Members will be asked to advise, under section 59 of the Immigration Ordinance (Chapter 115) whether the Immigration (Amendment) Regulations 1972 should be made.
