CONFIDENTIAL
Membership of the Legislative Council
9.
It is possible that Mr Cheong-Leen will raise the
associated question of membership of the Legislative Council.
The Hong Kong Standard, dated 6 April, reports a suggestion
made by Mr Cheong-Leen at a meeting of the Urban Council that
elected Urban Councillors should be allotted seats on the
Legislative Council (the Kaifongs are not in favour of this
press cutting attached).
10. There have also been reports in the local press over the
past few weeks of a public campaign by students, hawkers, mini-
bus and cab-drivers in support of a proposal that Mrs Elsie
Elliott should be given a seat on the Legislative Council.
11.
If Mr Cheong-Leen does raise the question of the membership
of the Legislative Council it would be useful if Mr Royle
could draw him out (Sir Leslie Monson will be discussing this
whole question with Sir Murray MacLehose).
