that HMG did not support what the Hong Kong Government were

doing. In the present state of our relations with Hong

Kong on textiles, currency and traffic rights, I do not

think we would wish openly to disagree with them on yet

another issue. In the circumstances I can only suggest that

the Minister should not take the initiative in asking

Rediffusion to call on him again. But if they do ask for

an appointment then I suggest that, whilst expressing

sympathy and a continuing willingness to assist if possible,

the Minister should in general follow the lines of

Mr Kidd's letter.
