INTRODUCTION
THE COMMUNIST THREAT IN EDUCATION
In Hong Kong, as elsewhere, Communists have always raid great attention
Communist controlled schools have existed
to capturing the minds of the young.
in the Colony since the early 20's and even now, in spite of Government's
considerable efforts over the years to provide cheap, or free, primary education,
the numbers of children in such schools continue to rise.
AIM
2.
To examine the threat posed by the communist education system in
Hong Kong and to consider practical and effective counter-Leasures.
THE BACKGROUND

Immediately after the communist take over in China, in 1949, a wave of
patriotic enthusiasm spread through many Hong Kong schools which allied themselves
to the new order. In 1952 a new Education C.dinance, together with the deporta-
tion of some trouble makers, allowed Government to gain control of the educations)
field, while the repressive actions of the CPG, particularly against intellectual,
tended to disillusion many of those local educationalists who had hitherto regarded
the new regime favourably.

Nevertheless, hard core communiet schools continued to flourish in the
/Colony.
