Whilst specific amounts have been shown against individual dependencies in the table, provision has been in effect sought in the ite... for the needs of the Dependent Territories Division as a whole and so far as we are concerned Heads of Dependent Territories Departments will be free to reallocate among themselves or within their departmental totals (which are expenditure totals) in the light or current requirements. The figures quoted must of course cover expenditure arising from existing on-going Technical Assistance Programmes in the various territories which Departments have taken over. The Dependent Territories Departments concerned know of these commitments which will need to be taken into account in deciding what new projects can be accepted. New commitments which might cause departmental expenditure totals to be exceeded should not be entered upon without prior reference to this office: there is virtually no possibility of our being able to increase the total sum during 1972/73.
4. We omitted, inadvertently, to transfer provision for the Falkland Islands from the ODA Latin America allocation. £60,000 in aduition to the total in the item is available on this account and our Latin America allocation and estimates provision for 1972/73 is correspondingly reduced by £60,000.
