LOVERNOR'S PROGRAMME
1.
2.
Please see the attached letter from Mr Michael Wright.
I will deal with the question of Lady MacLehose's transport at the airport, but I should be grateful for your advice on the question of the Governor's meeting the Chamber of Chinese Traders. Mr Wright asked me to put his proposal to Sir Murray which I did, giving him at the same time the gist of the Note on the Chamber which is enclosed with Mr Wright's letter.
3. The Governor cannot attend the Swearing-In Ceremony at 4 pm on 6 September as he has a meeting on staffing matters fixed for 3.30 that afternoon. However, if it were considered a good thing for him to do he would be willing in principle to go and meet the Chamber at about 5 30. However, he told me that he knew nothing of the Chamber and its interests and was not sure that he trusted Mr Wright's recommendation. Sir Murray did not wish to get involved in disputes between this body and authorities in the UK and he felt that perhaps the Chamber might try to get him to pull strings on their behalf for instance in connection with the redevelopment of Gerrard Street. He will be grateful for your views.
