COMMONWE TH AFFAIRS TO PEKING AND HONG KONG 27 OCTOBER – 4 NOVEMBER 1972

This (as known in Conference and Visits Section on 20 October) is shown at Appendix I.

Travel to Peking
(a)
(b)
The Secretary of State and party will travel to Peking, Hong Kong and back to London in a VC10 aircraft of 46 Group RAF (Task No. 1048).
The Secretary of State and Lady Douglas-Home will join the aircraft at Leuchars RAF Station in time for take-off at midnight 27/28 October.
(c) The rest of those shown at Appendix I will travel
from RAF Brize Norton. Take-off is scheduled for 2040 arriving Leuchars 2200 hours and transport will be arranged to leave the FCO at 1800 hours. Detailed departure arrangements will be issued separately.

Serials 20 and 21 will join the Secretary of State's aircraft at Tokyo International Airport (Haneda).
Serials 16, 18 and 19 will fly out to Hong Kong and Peking in advance; both Posts have been informed.
(f) The Ambassador, a member of his staff and four
Chinese? will join the aircraft for the leg Shanghai- Peking.
Return travel
(a) Serials 15, 19 and 20 will be returning from Peking
independently.

Serials 16 and 18 will join the VC10 in Peking and return to London with the main party.
(c) Serial 14 will be returning independently from Hong

Kong after the visit.
Serials 22, 23, 24 and 25 will leave the Delegation on arrival in Hong Kong and return to London by an RAF scheduled flight.
