The Hong Kong Government has been showing interest in the provision of water supply by desalination process and how the generation of power and desalination could complement. each other to produce 100m gallons of water / day; a survey by Binnie & Partners is understood to have been commissioned to investigate the problem. Meanwhile in a budget stutement during February 1971 it was stated by Government they intended to go ahead with the first part of this scheme with the provision of a 20m gallon desalination plant at a total cost of around £14m. The choice of contractor is understood to lie between Japanese consortium and a TK oonsortium.
