Freedom of Movement of Hong Kong Passport

Holders in the EEC

No special arrangements for Hong Kong have been

made in the EEC enlargement negotiations other than

agreement that the Colony will be included in the

Community's Generalised Preference Scheme. The

Treaty of Accession does not apply to the Colony

and Hong Kong holders of British passports will not

fall within the definition of nationals of the

United Kingdom for EEC purposes until they have

been resident in the United Kingdom for a period

of five years. The United Kingdom's entry into the

otherwise efore have no effect

European Community will therefore, have

on the position of United Kingdom citizens who are

Hong Kong belongers in relation to the countries

of the enlarged Community.
