might also give some opportunity for cultural

and academic figures to be invited rather than

Ministers and officials from the Ministry of

Foreign Affairs and linintry of Foreign Trade

only.

staff, possibly in the Embassy club.

INTERGRETATION

16. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affeirs have a large

number of specialist interpreters. They have no other duties

except to provide interpretation end the standard is therefore

very much higher than members of the Diplomatic Service hove

been able to attain. While members of the Embassy in Teking

will be able to interpret at social functions, the Chinese

will expect to provide consecutive interpretation at the

official meetings.
