the Secretary of State's dinner party to be
given in the guesthouse. The Chinese can
provide adequate vestem style cooking if
required. A dinner party for a larger number
might also give some opportunity for cultural
and academic figures to be invited rather than
Ministers and officials from the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and linintry of Foreign Trade
only.
(iii) A luncheon party for Ambassadors in loking.
(iv) An informal meeting with members of the Embassy
staff, possibly in the Embassy club.
INTERGRETATION
16. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affeirs have a large
number of specialist interpreters. They have no other duties
except to provide interpretation end the standard is therefore
very much higher than members of the Diplomatic Service hove
been able to attain. While members of the Embassy in Teking
will be able to interpret at social functions, the Chinese
will expect to provide consecutive interpretation at the
official meetings.
