I attach a memorandum setting out the main points made at
the preparatory meeting which Mr Evans held on 19 July.
2. I should be grateful for authority for planning for the
Secretary of State's visit to be carried forward on the basis
set out below. (The headings refer to the corresponding
passages in the memorandum, which I have summarised):
A.
DATES
3. The Secretary of State should aim to spend 4 full days in
China and a night and the best part of a full day in Hong Kong
on his way back. This would mean an absence of 8 days, leaving
London on the afternoon of Friday 27 October and returning on
Saturday, 4 November.
