THE SECRETARY OF STATE'S VISIT TO HONG KONG

In his minute dated 6 September, addressed to Mr Evans,

Far Eastern Department, Mr Acland recorded his discussion with

Sir Murray Maclenose and suggested an outline programme.

I

Now that the visit has been announced publicly you may

like to get the arrangements for the programme finalised.

attach a draft telegram to the Governor accordingly.

3.

I see that Mr Acland's minute envisages on the Friday

morning a meeting with the Executive Council. When the

Secretary of State visited Hong Kong in February, it was

the Unofficial Members of Executive Council and Legislative

Council whom he saw. I wonder if it should not be the same

again.

4.

The point about the venue for the Press Conference

has been included at the request of News Department and has

been cleared with Protocol and Conference Department.
