NOTES FOR SUPPLEMENTARIES
HONG KONG EEC AND GENERALISED PREFERENCES
1.
As I explained in Hong Kong, I am convinced that, in
the Common Market, Hong Kong's interests and Britain's
interests will be complementary and not opposed, and
other In the negotiations for entry we fought hard for
Hong Kong's interests and we shall continue to represent
them after we become a full Member.
Agreement was reached that Hong Kong should be included
in the Community's Generalised Preference scheme and
Hong Kong has been benefiting from the scheme since it
came into force in mid-1971.
We shall continue to press for Hong Kong's inclusion
in the Generalised Preference Schemes of other donor
countries, notably those of America, Japan and Denmark.
