(i) The Ambassador says (in his telegram No. 14 of 8 January):-

"Although the worst of the weather is usually over by the second part of February, it can still be extremely cold, and cold weather clothing is required, including fur hats for those with sensitive ears. But Korean houses and public buildings are normally well heated and indoor clothing will be as for the United Kingdom".

(ii)

(e) Tokyo

Dress for the Korean Foreign Minister's dinner will be dark suit, badies may prefer a long to a short dress.

(i) The weather will be much as it is in London, but, if

anything, slightly warmer. However, it may snow.

(ii) It looks as if dinner jackets will be required by senior

members of the party. This will be confirmed.

(f) Clothing Allowances

Those who feel they have an entitlement (i.e. no claim within the last four years) should consult Mr D S Cruickshank, Personnel Services Department (CG 82/83). Refunds are made on production of receipts, and normally the total admissible amount is limited to £40, which has to cover the hire or purchase of overshoes, fur hats etc, as well as hire of, for example, a tropical weight morning coat. However, owing to the varied nature of the weather on these visits, some latitude may be given whore officers have to buy or hire kit to cover both extremes of climate.
