MR ROYLE'S VISIT TO CHINA
1. Mr Royle plans to visit China during the perica between 29 May and 12 June.
2. This will be the first visit by an FCO Minister since the establishment of the People's Republic of Chire in 1949. It will also be the first British Ministerial visit since 1964. It will be followed by a visit by the Secretary of Stato. It is hoped that this will be between 29 October and 6 November. The Chinese Minister,
Ch'i Peng-fei, has been invited to visit this country and has accepted in principle. A date for his visit has however still to be agrecd.
3. Mr Royle's visit will form part of an exchange of visits with Vice Foreign Minister Ch'iao Kuan-hua. (A date for Ch'iao Kuan-hua's visit to this country has still to be fixed). It is proposed that the main part of Mr Royle's visit will be spent in Peking, but
