PRESS CONFERENCE WITH MR. ANTHONY ROYLE
14 Nov 1972
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for coming
along this morning. It is two years since I was
last in Hong Kong and it has been a great pleasure
for me to be again back in Hong Kong as Minister
responsible to Sir Alex Douglas Homes for Hong Kong
affairs.

This visit has been in the nature of a working visit.
I had a fairly hard programme as I think you all know and the aim of my visit has been to up-date myself on developments in Hong Kong that have taken place since
I was last here two years ago.
One of the things that has struck me tremediously is the cleanliness of Hong Kong. I have been much struck by the success of the 'Keep Hong Kong Clean' campaign. I have not only been driving around the main streets but also some of the back streets as well and it is very startling and very gratifying to see the success of this effort, a success which is, 1 think, a great credit not only to the Governor and the Government of Hong Kong who have inspired the campaign but to the people of Hong Kong of whom many tens of thousands have been involved.
I don't think there is anything else that I need say now to open this conference but I am sitting here available for you to fire your questions at me in the way I have done for many years now during, I think, over ten visits to Hong Kong over the years.
Sir, we were wondering if you could clarify exactly
the purpose of your visit and the types of things you will discuss with the officials here?..
