SENIOR APPOINTMENTS IN THE HONG KONG POLICE FORCE
1.
When Mr Kidd came into the office recently:, he
mentioned that the Colonial Secretary might raise this
subject during your visit to Hong Kong.

2. One of the Deputy Commissioner posts became vacant
recently upon Mr Wright-Nooth's retirement. The other is
also likely to become vacant due to the possibility that
Mr Rolph might be medically boarded out of the Service.
3. Mr Sleven has just been promoted from Senior Assistant Commissioner to Deputy Commissioner (over the head of Mr Lees who ranked above him in seniority terms).

I understand it is accepted in official circles in Hong Kong that, barring accidents, Mr Sleven should succeed Mr Sutcliffe
as Commissioner of Police.

4. Hong Kong are also hoping to recruit Mr R T M Henry, at present Commissioner of Police in Fiji. However, they have been holding up a formal offer to him until the results of Mr Rolph's medical board are known, in order to decide
upon the rank to be offered.

5. It would be helpful if you could find out if it is the intention to appoint Mr Henry as the second Deputy Commis- sioner in the event of Mr Rolph retiring for health reasons.
