A small group of American residents in Hongkong is trying to persuade personnel of the United States Consulate-General to take part in a rally on May 4, in protest against American involvement in Vietnam.

Calling themselves the adhoc committee for peace in Indochina, the group 15 appealing to the staff of the American Consulate who are against the war, "not to be intimidated by the fact of your current employment from the lawful public expression of your opinions as citizens."

They hope that the personnel will take part in the rally on the grounds of the Consulate as well as in a candlelight vigil throughout Wednesday night, starting at 8

pm.

In a statement issued yesterday, they said: "We further hope that at least some of you will refrain from going to work on Thursday, perhsps only for part of the day, as á tangible expression of your feelings of opposition to U.S. Government policy in Indo - china.

"Others of you might wish to sign our petition, wear black armbands during the day and fast with us, and perhaps to contribute the money saved

from fasting to an Indochina relief fund or to an anti war candidate for the Presidency

The committee of about 30 people, also hopes to gather signatures for a petition which will be sent to President Nivon and Majority leaders in the U.S. House and Senate.

To publicise their cause, the group is giving a public showing of slides depicting methods used by the U.S. to wage electronic warfare in Indochina. The slides have been compiled by the American Friends Service Committee and will be screened at the Foreign Correspondents' Club today at

8 pm.

The committer is offici-lly informing the Consulate of its plans this morning.

A Consulate spokesman : id last night he did not know about the protest. commented that as long as they were peaceful, did not block entrances and exits and 'refrained from using ampli, og equipment, the Consulte would have no serious objection.
