the living conditions in these tesite areas are appalling. Electricity and water if any, are pporly supplied. In past months, because of the typhoons and the very poor conditions of the houses, residents in these areas had been in grave jeopardy.

Residents had from time to time made contacts with District Officers and the Squatters Section which are directly or indirectly in charge of the resite areas. Press Conferences had been held. Still no satis- factory reply was ever given. Once the authorities had conceded to add them with money for repairing their houses which had earlier been molested by typhoons. The villagers ignored the grants and persisted with their pledge

After the arrest of the students and residents they were changed for illegal assembly and traffic obstruction. The latter charge was after- wards dropped.

An emergency Representative Council meeting was called last evening, September 7. In the meeting we students adopted the followings :

That we would give whatever support and assistence necessary to the residents;

That all arrested and charged should be released immediately; That the petition of the residents are justified. They should be resettled.
