Dear
John,
I am writing to you as a J.P, in reference to the J.P. seat. I have heard that you are retiring shortly, and I think this is a pity, in view of the fine work you have done.
It has come to my notice that some of the Chinese members have suggested that the J.P. seat should be abolished. This could be taken as a serious loss of confidence in the value of the J.P. relationship, and I have prepared a letter to His Excellency following a brief mention of the topic at yesterday's lunch.
As our representative, is this not a matter which you should bring to the attention of the unofficial J.P. 's through a public meeting ? I am sure that you do not wish to be a "Dodo".
PALV/CW Encl.
Yours sincerely,
Sd.
