APPOINTMENTS TO THE EXECUTIVE AND LEGISLATIVE COUNCILS, HONG KONG
1. At a Privy Council meeting in June an amendment
was made to the Royal Instructions to increase by
four (2 Officials and 2 Unofficials) the number of
Members of Legislative Council. The maximum number
of Members is now 10 Official and 15 Unofficial, in
addition to the 4 "Ex-Officio Members (Colonial
Secretary, Attorney General, Secretary for Home
Affairs and Financial Secretary).
2.
On 1 July 1972 the Governor made substantive new
appointments to both the Executive and Legislative
Councils. A copy of the Governor's despatch of
22 July giving a list of the appointments is attached.
On making these appointments the Governor left two
vacancies on the Legislative Council one Official
and one Unofficial.

3. The Governor now proposes to fill these two
vacancies and also a further vacancy on both the
Executive and Legislative Councils, which has arisen
because of the retirement of Mr G T Rowe, a nominated
official member of both.
4. In his telegram No 1035 the Governor recommends
the replacement of Mr Rowe on the Executive Council by Dr G H Choa, Director of Medical and Health Services
who is already an Official Member of the Legislative
