Suggested Visit by the Secretary of

State to Hong Kong

єй

25

The Secretary of State would be glad to visit Hong Kong and to open the Science Centre. On the whole he would prefer, if it were possible, to have the week immediately after Easter free since this will be the Parliamentary recess. This would mean that he would be in a position to travel on about 10 April, arriving in Hong Kong on 11 April for the programme starting on 12 April at the earliest. Would it be possible to put back the opening of the Science Centre accordingly and for the Secretary of State perhaps to look in on the Conference of Vice-Chancellors and Principals which presumably continues over a number of days?

2. If this were possible he could go on to Australia for the SEATO Meeting and New Zealand, provided that the SEATO dates could also be made to fit (he could of course go first to New Zealand if that made the fixing of the SEATO dates easier).

(J. A. N. Graham) 19 May, 1971.
