POSSIBLE VISTA TO INDONESIA DY THE SECRIRARY OF STATE
1. The Secretary of State has agreed to attend the SEATO
Conference watch is expected to take place in Canbozza at
the end of June 1972. He has said that ho wishes to combino
the visit to Canberra with official visits to Australia and
to New Zealand. There is also a possibility that tho Secretary of State will fit in a visit to Hong Kong either before or after he goes to Australia and Now Zealand.

RECCILMENDATION
2. I recommend that if time permite, the Secretary of
State should include a short visit to Indonesia in the
pzogzamo of his tour to Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong.
BACKGROUND
3. The only previous visit of a Boorotary of State to Indonesia was that of Mr Michael Stewart to Djakarta in July 1966. Mr Malik paid a return visit an a guest of IMO in
November 1969. A number of other Indonesian Ministoro havo.
