CHANGES IN PROCEDURE FOR OVERSEAS WORKERS
Fewer Formalities For Those Going To U.K.
*
The Contracts for Overseas Employment (Amendment) Bill 1971,
published in today's Gazette, amends the ordinance enacted in 1965 in
three respects.
Under the existing ordinance workers leaving Hong Kong for employment overseas must be protected by suitable contracts which have to be presented to the Labour Department for attestation. They may also have to obtain work permits from the country of employment and appropriate
travel documents from the Immigration Department.

and these cover workers going to the United Kingdom who are British.
It is no longer thought necessary to distinguish between British and non-
British workers because they are both adequately protected by United
Kingdom legislation.
As 688 labour permits were issued in 1970-71 for Hong Kong residents
of non-British nationality, a considerable amount of formalities and paper
work will be eliminated both for the workers and the Labour Department.
