WE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THIS COURSE OF ACTION HAS THREE
ADVANTAGES. FIRST, IT WOULD NOT AROUSE ADVERSE PUBLIC COMMENT.
SECOND, SIMILAR MISCONCEPTIONS TO THOSE WHICH I HAVE REFERRED
TO ABOVE EXIST IN HONGKONG, AND THE INTRODUCTION OF THE BILL
WILL PROVIDE A GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO CLEAR THEM UP IN PUBLIC.
THIRD, A POSTPONEMENT OF THE CONTINUATION OF THE DEBATE FOR
SAY FOUR OR SIX WEEKS WOULD ACCORD WITH THE EXPRESSED WISHES
OF UNOFFICIAL MEMBERS.
7. AS REGARDS THE SPECIFIC QUERY IN THE FINAL SENTENCE OF
YOURTEL 515, CLAUSE 57(1) REPLACES SECTION 22(1)(IV) OF EXISTING IMMIGRATION (CONTROL AND OFFENCES) ORDINANCE AS
AMENDED IN 1969 BY ORDINANCE 44.
8. OUR CURRENT REQUIREMENTS WITH RESPECT TO VISAS IN THE
CASE OF BOTH ALIENS AND COMMONWEALTH CITIZENS ARE AS SET OUT
IN SUMMARY OF VISA REGULATIONS (VOLUME 26 OF DIPLOMATIC SERVICE PROCEDURE, CHAPTER 3). VISAS ARE NOT NECESSARY IN THE CASE OF
CITIZENS OF UNITED KINGDOM AND COLONIES WHO HOLD UNITED.
KINGDOM PASSPORTS ISSUED IN UNITED KINGDOM UNLESS ISSUED ON
BEHALF OF ANOTHER TERRITORY, NO CHANGE IN ANY OF THE CURRENT
REQUIREMENTS IS CONTEMPLATED IN CONSEQUENCE OF ENACTMENT OF
NEW IMMIGRATION BILL.
