make way for development schemes, 30,000 squatters living in the worst conditions
should be rehoused during the same period.
The Board recommends that management practice in resettlement
estates should be brought more into line with that provided by the Housing
Authority in managing Government Low Cost Housing estates and that markets
should be provided in new and existing resettlement estates with the necessary
staff to ensure proper management.
A spokesman for the Board said that with the Census findings now
available, the Board would be reviewing its recommendations in the light

the report were based on population and housing statistics compiled before
the 1971 Census.
