would certainly be of assistance in orientating the legal
profession in its relationship to the Law Department. It
would be one thing for us to say to them: "Success in the
profession opens the prospect of high responsibility such
as appointment to the Supreme Court Bench". It would be a
totally different thing if we were to say: "To the
successful and selfish it gives considerable scope for making a lot of money".
