has been paid in this country to the typhoon.

Having regard to all these considerations we in the

Department came to the conclusion that it would be best not

to recommend any contribution by HMG towards the cost of

relief measures. The Chinese Red Cross donation, as reported

by the BBC, makes it all the more difficult for HIG to offer

a token contribution of, say, £10,000.

In all the circumstances Sir L Monson may wish to write

to Sir D Trench on the lines of the attached draft.
