OVER 16,000 TONS OF DEBRIS CLEARED

Since Typhoon Rose Struck

******

Since Typhoon Rose struck on August 16, the Urban Services Department

has removed just under 15,000 tons of household refuse and some 1,150 tons

of typhoon debris.

About 1,000 tons of typhoon debris has yet to be cleared on the Island

and about 300 tons in Kowloon.

Clearance of household rubbish has returned to normal with about

1,400 tons being collected in Kowloon and 700 tons in Hong Kong a day.

Special typhoon clearance operations will continue until all typhoon

debris has been removed, and should be completed by the end of the month,

an Urban Services spokesman said today.

The operations are being greatly assisted by additional transport

made available by the Royal Corps of Transport who responded immediately

to a request by the U.S.D. for the loan of 12 trucks in Kowloon and 6 in

Hong Kong.
