Mr Wright telephoned this afternoon to say that Sir David Trench would be in London from 24
26 January (he has a lecture and lunch at Chatham House on the 25th and a dinner with the Hong Kong Association on the 26th). It will clearly be convenient to Sir David Trench if he can make his farewell calls on the Secretary of State, Mr Royle, Sir L Monson and others at that time. To begin with, would you please consult the Private Office to find out if the Secretary of State could see Sir D Trench at any time during those 3 days. If the Secretary of State is available we can then arrange the other appointments.
I promised to ring Mr Wright back as soon as possible.
