Hong Kong Defence Contribution
1. At their meeting on 23 July, the Defence and Oversea
Policy Committee decided that the Governor should be
instructed to do his utmost to secure the payment of a
defence contribution of £8 million a year.
2. I am glad to be able to report that the Governor
has, with considerable skill, succeeded in persuading
both his Executive Council and the Colony's Legislative
Council to agree to make such a contribution.
3.
I am sending copies of this minute to the other
members of the Committee.
