HONG KONG DEFENCE CONTRIBUTION
1.
Mr Wilford suggested yesterday that the Governor would appreciate a short telegram thanking him for his telegram No.49. I agree. A draft is attached.
2.
The preliminary reactions to the Governor's latest proposals at departmental level in other Departments is as follows-
MOD Favourable. The offer should be accepted. We might
possibly be able to isolate the Treasury.
Treasury Completely non-commital. Proposals now being
submitted to higher authority.
Department of the Environment - No opinion one way or the other (but what they think is unimportant anyhow).
