DEFENCE CONTRIBUTION
1. We had hoped we would have been in a position
to telegraph you before close of play today conveying
HMG's approval for your offer to attempt to negotiate
a contribution of £81 million.
2.
Although we have not been able to do this, you
will be glad to know that we have secured Ministerial
agreement to your offer from all Departments concerned
except Ministry of Defence. We understand that
decision by latter has been delayed only because of
shall
pressure of other urgent matters. We expect to be
just as soon as are ca in a position to telegraph final outcome on Monday.
