I am not certain to what extent you are kept eu falt within the Ministry of Defence about our negotiations wi the long Hong Government on a defence contribution. reached interdepartmental agreement recently in whitehall to authorise the Governor to try for a contribution of £6.5 million and he has just reported un his first meeting with his unofficial advisers. I attach a copy of Hong Kong telegram No. 85. If you do not see these telegrams would you please get your secretary to rig mine and I will ensure that you get a personal copy.
