Dear MR Laind
For the recent few months, the Hong Kong Industry has been facing a lot of problems and difficulties internally (new drown rent) and externally (U.S. Surcharge and other trade restrictions). For example, our sincere partner (described by H.R.H. Princess Anne in her speech) British Government would again imposed quotas on the Hong Kong Cotton woven textile exports in 1972. We can see that those trade barriers, restrictions, quota limitations would seriously affect the industry in the Colony eventually.
The life of 4 millions people here fully depend upon the development of its industry. In short, we could not be alive without industry! It is our sincere hope that the "Doctor" will be kindly enough to cure the "hen" lays the golden eggs.
Hong Kong, being as one of the remaining Colonies of U. K. has played an important role in the international trade for all Countries concerned but also help U. K. in the promotion of the trades. It is a cross road between East & West. We are in fact the children, or your younger sisters or partner of U.K. Indeed, we need your moral support. We don't aid but free trade! Please help Hong Kong to solve the economical problems prevailing nowaday for the mutual benefit. Help Hong Kong help yourself.

I have every reason to believe that U. K. would let Hong Kong But we must wait and see.
Being as one of the sincere supporters of your Government and a person of straight-forward, I sincerely hope your Ministers will listen to the voice of the people of the Colony. Remind our Government does not mean critism! Anything your Government can do for us to solve the economical problems will be highly appreciated by all people of Hong Kong who are the sincere partners of United Kingdom. By the way, I must declare that I have no interest in the Textile industry at all, but I would like to draw your kind attention to the voices of the local industralists of Hong Kong.
I take this opportunity to extend our best wishes to all of you for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Yours Sincerely,
LAST
