With regard to question 5, I regret that we do not have records of the balance of payment positions of our dependent territories. The reason for this is one that you will, I am sure, appreciate. The majority of our dependent territories are very small and their adminis- trations are not geared to the production of sophisticated returns and statistics. I trust, therefore, that the enclosed details will give you a general picture of the economy of each territory. If you have further queries please let us know and we will do our best to provide the information required.

As regards the Gulf States, I am enclosing an official pamphlet giving details of their industry and economy and hope that this will be of some use to your Government.
