I have the honour to inform you that, following receipt of your telegram No.437, I have made the following appointments of Official Members to the Executive and Legislative Councils:
(a) The Executive Council
Mr G. T. Rowe, J.P., from 1st July 1971 to
30th June 1972 inclusive.

(b) The Legislative Council
(1) Mr R.M. Hetherington,
D. F. C., J. P., from 1st July 1971 up to the date he relinquishes the post of Commissioner of Labour.
(ii) The following from 1st July 1971 to 30th June
1972 inclusive:

Mr J.J. Robson, J.P.
Mr J. Canning, J.P.

To fill the eighth seat for an Official Member of the Legislative Council I have appointed Mr J. C. C. Walden, J. P., provisionally and subject to Her Majesty's pleasure, with effect from 7th July 1971.

Mr Walden's substantive appointment is currently Deputy Commissioner for Resettlement. He will act in the post of Commissioner from 7th July 1971 until about 4th September 1971 when Mr I, M. Lightbody becomes the new substantive Commissioner (paragraphs 3, 4 and 5 of my telegram 381 are relevant).
Copies of the Instruments of Appointment and of the Gazette Notices promulgating these appointments are attached.
